About

Welcome to the Arab Feminist Project! We are dedicated to the recovery of Arab and Muslim women's feminist her-stories and their contributions to feminist movements across South West Asia and North Africa.

Pioneer women throughout history have crossed boundaries, fought to make their voices heard in many ways, and shaped the current sociopolitical landscape. Yet, they have been written out of historical narratives for far too long. Our mission is to bring you their stories. Through the reclaiming of our narratives, we can create a shared future. This project is built upon the notion that the education of our younger generation is pivotal for continuing the organizing and activist work of the women who have come before us.

We strive to create an inclusive and supportive educational environment that fosters  collaboration, learning, and growth.

Join us as we embark on a journey into our shared past!

Mission Statement

Our vision for the Arab Feminism website is to create a vibrant community that celebrates the resilience and strength of Arab women while also acknowledging the challenges they face. We envision a space that fosters critical thinking, encourages dialogue, and empowers women to challenge patriarchal structures and systemic oppression.

We believe that by highlighting the rich history of Arab feminist movements and amplifying the voices of contemporary activists, we can inspire a new generation of feminists to continue the fight for gender equality.

We are optimistic about the future of Arab feminism, but we also recognize the limitations that women continue to face. Our project acknowledges the progress that has been made, but it also calls attention to the many areas where more work needs to be done. We are critical of the limitations and injustices that Arab women continue to face, including patriarchal societal norms, gender-based violence, and systemic inequality.

We believe that by embracing a critical yet hopeful perspective, we can inspire change and create a more just and equitable world for all Arab women.
